  1. was an apprentice jock untill weight forced me 2 quit, i am still heavily involved in the industry though.

seeing u r in the us i am not familiar with your rules and regs but i know u are going to have 2 have very good balance, nerves of steel, big brassed balls and a desire to succeed as this is a very hard profession to make it 2 the top in.

the days are very long and hard as i used to rise at 3am muck the boxes then i would work about 8 horses in morning trackwork, after this its a hose down for the horses and muck out the boxes agiain, have some breakfast then if its a raceday you have to travell to the track (SOMETIMES A 3 HOUR DRIVE)and honour your riding commitments, after this you clean your gear go back to the stables muck out the boxes again, walk the horses around the yard for a little excersise, have dinner go to bed ,wake up and do it all again.

ITS NOT A PRETTY LIFE AS THE SACRIFICES ARE MANY.

if u want more info email me

  2. I would get an internship, job, or working student position at a racing barn to build your experience backround.  You will probably start off having to clean stalls and groom, but you may eventually make it to be an exercise rider.  This experience will be essential when people go looking for a jockey.  Good luck!
