I have a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. No teacher certification. I am currently teaching in Korea and really like it and am thinking about becoming a science teacher in the states. Do I need to take some science classes and get a teacher certification? What would be the best route to take to do this?

  1. It would take a long time for you to get certified. You usually need to have the equivalent of an undergrad major in the subject you want to teach, plus numerous education classes. It would take at least several years of school before you could be a certified science teacher. You might have to do almost an entire undergrad degree in secondary ed - science.

However, if you took enough math classes, you might have an easier time becoming a math teacher. Look on the Dept of Ed website for the state you want to teach in. Some of them have what are called "lateral entry" programs for teachers who worked in a different field before. They will tell you the requirements to get certified. It will, at a minimum, take at 15 credits of education classes.
