  1. Community colleges are good for the liberal arts requirements - I'd strongly suggest you contact the university (or college) you're thinking of getting your 4-year degree from, and start with finding out what the requirements are for getting into their social work program - then you'll know better what's needed at the community college level.  In other words, work backwards.  If I had done this, I would have finished in four years instead of five.

  2. Make sure your core requirements for your degree transfers to the university. Print out the class requirements for your Bachelor's degree from the university of your choice, try several some may have greater incentives. Some university web sites have conversation tables for classes taken at community colleges. Try that. Go to the counselor at the university and discuss this with them, sometimes they partner with a local community college for students like you! I received a full (two year) scholarship to the university after receiving an A.A. at the community college. Get on Web sites also, make sure the school you choose is accredited by the state you live in. You will have to prove your successful completion of accredited classes when you go to test for your license and when you apply for a job.

Social work is an honorable profession, wonderfully rewarding and painfully stressful at the same time. I love my job, I make a difference in children's lives. Good luck to you!
