  1. Why not start as a volenteer at your local youth club or even with the youth offending team, all the experience you gain you will be able to put onto your CV and the people who work there will be able to point you in the right direct , also you can see if this is really the direction you want to take your career

  2. people don't just get picked out a hat to be trained as a youth /social worker just anywhere, first of all you need to have the right studies and gained enough knowledge in the matter, get qualified and once you have a diploma in your hand your half way there, you will then need to look for work as a trainee and from there work you way up also rember you'll have to urdergo a crb.good luck

P.s a good step in the right direction ( BSY ) study from home.

  3. I'd start out by talking to someone who does the job right now. Although the pay is low and the job is difficult, the outcomes can be rewarding. I suspect that you will need a BA for working as a social worker, but there may be other jobs that require less education.

Contact a youth shelter in your area, and ask to tak to a social worker. I'm sure that he or she can give you the insights into minimum requirements and job opportunities in your area.

  4. Sandra , I will only be able to answer one question today and Im glad I saw your question. Forget the points.

Its very noble and kind of you to even ask such a question. Many places are in need of volunteers and workers.

The name social worker has very broad meanings. It could be in a large corporation , a clinic , a school , a center for youth behavior management , homeless youth shelter , youth crisis shelter. A social worker must have a college degree to be certified and a masters for clinical work however there are thousands and thousands of social workers who received their training as on the job experience.

I agree with those who answered before me , they are 100% correct . Visit the dept. of human services , the dept of social services or the dept of childrens services in your community and tell them what you would like to do and if they could refer you to a center. Since we dont know where you live , you will have to ask someone in social worker to refer you in your area. Its a very rewarding experience and as the gentleman who posted first , the pay is terrible ( unless you have a degree...somewhat) but the joy and happiness and the help you bring to others is something a paycheck wont buy

So start making a few visits and phone calls  to some agencies that work with youth in your area and the best of luck to you.

    Remember this :

A hundred years from now it wont matter what your bank account was , the sort of house you lived in , or the kind of car you drove, but the world may be different because you were important in the life of a child.

    I wish you well.

  5. The Boys and Girls Clubs usually take volunteers as well as Big Brothers and Sisters.  You may also try your church if you are involved.

Liability being what it is these days, you may actually find that you will need a degree.  Many degree programs ( esp. in the social sciences)  can help line up internships.
