I have decided I want to become a stock broker for my career. I am not sure what I should major in though.

What are the best schools for this?

My grades are 3.53gpa(would transfer the 60hours to most schools. Think that is the max for a lot) at an accredited State University and 3.9 high school GPA.

  1. I would suggest either a major in finance with a minor in math or a major in math with a minor in finance.  Then do a Masters in finance with an embedded CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) qualification.

Any good business school such as one of the other posters mentioned would be fine.  I suggest one of the following:

For your masters look into something like:

    Thanks

  2. i don't no watch the movie pursuit of happiness though its about a broker

  3. Assuming that you are working on your Bachelor's degree, you should probably double major.  Business and economics.  I live in Rochester, NY and the University of Rochester has the Simon School of Business.  It is one of the best schools for Business in the country.  The tuition is like $38,000 a year not including room and board, so apply for scholarships.

  4. There are two ways to be a stockbroker.

    1) No education required, just be 18 years old. Get yourself hired by any brokerage firm, get your Series 7/63 license, work from the bottom and your way up. Once you establish a nice size book (clients with a lot of money), leave that firm *with* your book, and join a big house like Merril Lynch, Painwebber, Smith Barney and so forth.

    2) Get a finance degree, graduate from a top business school, intern at one of the big houses, and join the firm. Get your 7/63 license, and work from the bottom and your way up.

The truth is. A stockbroker is nothing more than a very highly regulated salesman. If you can do sales, and able to sell a freezer to an Eskimo, then you can be a stockbroker.

  5. You should major in Finance.  Contrary to popular belief, as long as you go to an accredited college, there is often not much difference among them.  I once attended a private college as well as a state university...the only difference was the much higher tuition at the private college.
