I want to be a teaching assistant and do a course throug the home learning collage, is that enough?

Looking at taking a course for child psychology through the home learning collage. I will then get a diploma. Is that enough to go and work in a school or do i have to go to uni to get an degree?I live in the uk. Do you get an job easier if you have a degree?
