i really want to be a vegetarian, i have been for a couple of months now.

my mom completly supports me, that's not the problem. the problem is me; i don't eat vegetables and i love meat. i know that sounds like the total opposite of what i should be, but i really really really want to become a vegetarian. i saw and read how those animals are tortured, 5 of my friends and my soon to be step dad are vegetarians too.

does anybody have any ideas for me? like, eating right, getting from meat lover to vegetarian, anything. thank you so much in advance.

  1. I switched to a vegetarian almost 3 years ago now and its great!

At the grocery store here theres alot of great products for vegetarians..like for example vege bacon..vege sausages..stuff like that with no meat in it at all..I dont know if u have that kinda thing where u live..but its great for someone like u who loves meat but wants to be a vege =)

  2. I have been a vegetarian almost my entire life. I was never a fan of vegetables (I know....it's weird maybe). The best thing I ever did was buy a food processor and a good vegetarian cookbook.

I add in plenty of spices/what not (garlic, lemon or lime juices, parsley, basil, etc.) with the veggies. You can add cheese too. The combination all processed is really good.

A percentage of people over x amount of times consuming foods they don't typically like no longer have a distaste for that food and even desire it (I have seen documented studies on this). Try eating things you don't like (process them and add lots of other yummy foods/spices if you like) and soon, you may even crave them- I know I do.

Not too mention, if you go vegetarian you can still eat lots of fruits, nuts, beans, grains and of course, add in milk and cheese where/when you want.

With such a nice sized support system, I'm sure you'll be trying dishes you'll come to love! Good luck on going veg!

  3. That's great you want to go veg! You don't have to love vegetables in order to be vegetarian. There are plenty of other foods you can eat like fruits, beans, nuts, grains, and fake meats.

Instead of eating veggies plain, try sneaking them into other foods. I put chopped or shredded veggies into casseroles, burritos, stir-fries, pasta sauces, tofu scrambles, etc.

Here's a guide to transitioning to a veg diet in four weeks:

Also, here's a list of popular fake meats that you can use instead of meat in your favorite meals and recipes: http://www.vegcooking.com/guide-favs.asp

    Good luck!

  4. well its understandible growing up in such a meat loving culture to be difficult at first but it will get easier over time because you will have a mind change let your step dad help you and your friends so you can have a huge support system start out slow then increase the veggies and decrease the meat until its almost nothing and then start too eat no meat for like two weeks straight then see if you will want meat after that...............all about your mind set

  5. The best advice I have for you is to not completely replace all the meat products you eat with fake meat substitutes. They taste so bad that you will crave the real thing.

Instead, try one new vegetable a week, and cut out one type of meat too. Don't get mad at yourself if you "relapse" and go back to meat.

Do you like fruits? They have as many vitamins as veggies. But since they contain sugars or fats go easy on them. Also, don't replace meat with junk food.

If you live close to an Asian or Indian restaurant, chances are they have a vegetarian menu. Italian food is veggie friendly too.

  6. Well, I have been a vegetarian all of my life and I'm now a vegan, so I don't really understand your love for meat.  However, I do know what it's like to really want something, because sometimes I have cravings for cheese and other stuff like that.  And honestly, I don't eat enough veggies either. :] So here's what I do when I really want something... this should also work for you if you've watched those horrible videos online. Picture a cow, not a steak. A pig, not bacon. Do you really want to eat someONE, someone who had a mother? If you really really really really really want to become a vegetarian, you can fight through your love of meat, and slowly give it up by seeing an animal's face in your steak.

The thing that changed me the most was actually visiting animals at a farm, because once you get to know one, you realize that all of them have personalities, just like we do! So try going to a farm somewhere and you will feel totally different. That's what made me become a vegan! I saw a cow and I realized that I couldn't do what I was doing, and now I don't eat any dairy or anything like that either.

As for the vegetables, well, I have to work on that, too. :]

Just try to eat a little more each day... my favorite combo is eating carrots with some junky dip... at least it's something! I'm sure I'll get to actually like the carrots more than the dip sometime soon. ;]

Good luck! Email me anytime with more questions.
