I want to be a visual merchandiser. . .!?

I would like to someday be a visual merchandiser. I have retail experience, as well as experience setting up displays, putting inventory out on the floor, etc.

I am currently in community college. . .are there any classes I could take, maybe some business ones or something?

I'm 18, so I think I'm a little young to start applying for the jobs I want, but is there an in-between job I could start looking around for to get a little more experience?

  1. Classes that will help in  a community college setting are marketing, sales  management, graphic arts & psychology.

Go to work part time at a big box/ mass merchant store and have a straight conversation with the store manager. The national chains love having part timers (students) on staff. Your crazy school schedule gives a a store manager flexibility with staffing the store to peak demand times. Home Depot for example will reimburse part of your tuition bill and may offer you health benefits as a part timer. 18 years old is a good age to start working.  It sounds like you've been down that road already a little bit in retail. A  smaller store may not give you the free reign to merchandise your business the way you'd want to.

    Best of luck to you.

PS   Absolutely, positively stay in school! It is the best thing you can do for yourself.
