I want to be able to record tv by connecting my tv to my PC..help?

i want to be able to record shows of tv but dont want to fork out $200 for a DVD recorder. is there any way i can connect my TV to my computer so a can record shows to my hard drive or my dvd burner?

first of all,if it were that simple,everyone would be doing it.  you probably would need adapters and special software.  i do not know where you have been shopping,but walmart has at least three good dvd recorders for under 150.00 and one of those is under 100.00.

desktop, you need a tv tuner card, some are $49.95 for some marginal junk, a better card will cost about $200.00.

laptop, a PCTV usb device. I got mine for $40.00 but they retail for about $99.00. The user interface is kinda clumsy, but I can use it to tune NTSC or ATSC. You can also record via the thing.
