I want to be an actress, how and where can I send audition tapes?

OK, so I'll be 14 in two months. For the past two years I have had this huge acting dream and have done nothing about it. I mean, I have done the school musical, and I took drama as well, but I really can't wait any longer. I know that some of my favorite actresses have sent in audition tapes to get started in their career. The thing is, I really believe in myself. And I KNOW that I am a good actress. I have done my own monologues at school and I can actually act. And yes, I do believe that I am going to make it somewhere one day but the only problem is that I don't know how or where to start. I want to send in audition tapes to Disney or something. I want to get started on something little. Even if it means playing a two minute role in a TV show. My biggest dream is to be a soap opera actress. That is my one and only true goal in life. What do I record myself on? What is the address to send tapes to? Will they actually WATCH my tapes? I either want to send them to the ABC studios in New York, or to Disney in California. I can not afford to really fly out anywhere for auditions, so if I send a tape and someone sees it and likes it, we know it will be worth it. As I said before, I could get the smallest role on the face of this Earth and I'll be happy. What can I do? I could even care less if I get paid. Acting is my talent and passion. I don't think I'll be able to live through life knowing I didn't even try. Someone please; help me get started with this. I know I can do it. Thank you!

Hmm, instead of sending tapes, i would look in your local paper for movie extra jobs... Or maybe do a few indie films, in that case, look on craigslist.com plenty there.

It doesn't work that way and no matter how logical you think your plan is, it will be for nothing.  You must go to auditions, hundreds of them, and you would need a parent to go with you.  There's are thousands of girls your age that are doing this and they are very talented and you are going to have to compete with them, doing it the right way.  Almost everyone in show business has some type of connection through someone they know.  Very, very few people make it without this help.  Jennifer Love Hewitt had her mother helping her every step of the way and made it without relatives or other contacts in the business but she went to hundreds of auditions, read her story and you will see what I am talking about.  If you really want this you will have to at least follow her plan.  Nothing else will work.

Wow, I'm sorry but John Robert Powers is the biggest ripoff and telling a child to look on Craig's list and in the local paper where some of the biggest scammers put their ads is dangerous.  NEVER answer those types of ads.  So many people get ripped off that way.  Craig's list does have some legit ads, but they are few and far between and there are much more legitimate sources to get your info from.

OK, you might know that you are good and you may have done some things in school, but that is no where near good enough to get started in the real world.  You need to branch out from school, get into real acting classes and build a resume.  

Sending in an unsolicited tape that you make yourself is not going to get you anywhere.  When Casting Directors ask for tapes, they generally mean an actor's reel which consists of clips of actual workthey have done from real tv shows, films, commercials, etc.  Not them taping themselves.  There is always the chance that Disney or Nick, etc. will offer up a contest where you can film yourself and send it in, but those are the exceptions, not the rule.  I believe people can film themselves now and submit those tapes to iCarly but they will only be shown as part of the webshow and maybe only online if at all.  

Your best bet is to get started locally.  Branch out into local theatre that is not school related and see if mom and dad would be on board with acting classes, headshots and taking you to auditions for other projects.  You don't give the state you live in so do a web search for your state name and the word film, then search those sites thoroughly. Or instead of your state try any major metro area near you. Film associations have good local resources. Sometimes they list auditions, class info, acting coaches, casting directors, etc.  Hopefully you can get in on some student and indie films to build that resume.

Once you've done that, you can try getting an agent and going for more roles.

I really hope it works out for you.

You should get a subscription to Variety- it's an acting publication that has info about upcoming movies, auditions, etc... You need to learn how to network....it's all about who you know.  I know you want to start now, and by all means, send your tapes to EVERYONE, but if no one bites, think about going to an acting college after high school.  So many actors get discovered at college.  

One thing all these child actors have are parents who are willing to move them to LA or NYC before they are famous.  Parents sacrifice everything so that their child will get noticed.  I wanted to be an actor when I was young (did the same thing as you in school) but no way my mom was going to just move to LA for me.  These kids also have agents.  Send your tapes to talent agencies.

You need to become a trained actress. This means getting involved in acting workshops. Acting workshops aren't that pricey and they introduce you to agents. You will not be on Disney channel without an agent or being trained. If you want to be on Disney channel I recommend taking improve class. Improve is comedy and most shows on Disney are comedy    shows.I myself is involved in improve it is very fun and very educational for the acting business. GOOD LUCK
