I am thinking of a degree in Nursing, so if my dreams of becoming a flight attendant doesn't work out I would have something to fall back on. What would be the best to get for the job as an airline filght attendant?

  1. Very smart to think of something to fall back on...mostly since the aviation industry is probably one of the most unstable careers.  I think nursing is great...thats a great career to fall back on.  Unless thats just personal preference I would get a degree that will get you finished quicker depending on how much you want to start your career as a flight attendant.  I have always known I wanted to fly, I just got my associates.  So if I get furl. I will cross my fingers in hopes I will find another flying job.  But I wanted to get in the air fast but knew I still wanted some sort of education.  Its personal preference.  Its nice to have something to fall back on.  But you can always take online courses in a different career choice while you fly.  That way youre still taking care of your future but also loving what you do AT THE SAME TIME!!!  Genious.

  2. I would also learn some languages if you're not yet bilingual. The more languages you know, the more likely you'd get hired to go on international flights!

My friend was a flight attentdant and she could speak english, french and spanish fluently and she could also speak a little german and italian. She was able to fly to any spanish and french speaking country.

    Good Luck

  3. You'll just have to go to "Flight Attendant School" with the airline you choose to work for.  A good secondary degree would be hospitality, but it's not necessary to become an attendant.

  4. hospitality?

  5. Good thinking on your part for considering a fall back option.

So many of us pilots out there... myself included didn't think of that when we started out in aviation. this industry can be very unforgiving when the market hits the stops..or the bottom...So, i would recommend getting a degree in anything you would want to pursue if flying falls through....Business.....education....nur... good degree will be a benefit to you...it does not show what you know as much as it shows that you were willing to make a sacrifice for yourself...and anytime you can sacrifice your time for YOU....you will do it for your company too....good luck in your journey and life..

  6. I think that either a 2 or 4 year RN program would be ideal.

Nurses will always be in high demand.  With airlines, there is always some degree of job uncertainty - not so in the medical field !  Should you become a flight attendant, and end up furloughed, you can quickly obtain employment with a nursing degree.

  7. i would think hotel/restaurant management

  8. Any degree would be suffice for them. My brother has a communications degree and he is a flight attendant. (no he is not g*y)

  9. Psychology.  You will understand what I mean when you are a flight attendant!  Just kidding.  I think the nursing idea is an excellent one.  You could even work part-time as a nurse while you are a FA.  It's a tough industry, so having a good career to fall back on is smart.  Of course, being a FA is not all that it's cut out to be.  Get on some aviation websites and see what people complain about.

To get the job, a degree doesn't matter.  You can get the job with no degree, but it helps.  I would suggest you learn a foreign language too.  Most of the really good FA jobs require language skills.  Being a nurse would help if you were an FA on a corporate jet.  Good luck.

  10. I think nursing is fantastic.  Other good ones would be social work, sociology, or psychology.  You'll be dealing with people so it will be a good thing to learn about people and how they interact within society.

  11. If you really want to be marketable as a flight attendant, get a managment or business admin degree with a minor in foreign languages and get certified as an EMT. A lot of companies that fly private jets all over the world hire FA's, not just the airlines, and these are the things they look for. Nursing would also be a good education, especially as a back-up if you don't want to or can't fly fly anymore. Good luck!. Education never hurts, no matter what you study.

  12. You don't need a bachelor's to become a flight attendant

  13. Don't forget, one of the most important qualities (Besides having the appropriate degree) is being bilingual!
