  1. In the UK, C&G2330 C&G2391/2392 C&G2382 plus enough experience to know what you are doing. 2-3 years at college part-time or 5-6 months intensive just to do the technical bit.

  2. If you mean 'installation' you've got some studying to do.

Does the local union offer an apprentice program?

The are courses to take and exams to pass.

  3. If your in the UK then Pauline, has it about right, but it's the experience that counts. If you do an intensive courses in getting your qualifications. I always say it takes four years to qualify in your trade and ten years to learn it.

    sorry if that sounds daunting.

  4. Community college classes and then pass your liscensure examination.

  5. I assume you mean commercial and residential electrical installations.  To become a journeyman electrician you need a combination of classroom and formal on-the-job training.  The Province of Alberta through its apprenticeship program in conjunction with either NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) or SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) offers outstanding opportunities for exceptionally highly paid jobs in the electrician trade.   Due to Alberta's huge oil industry and robust economy, the demand for well-trained electricians is insatiable -- and even apprentices earn wages well above average.

    For more details check out:

For the first 3 years you would do 8 weeks of classroom work each year and the rest working as an apprentice with a journeyman electrician

In the 4th year you would do 12 weeks of classroom work and the remainder as a senior apprentice.

You would then receive a Journeyman Electrician ticket -- and in Alberta, at least, a guaranteed career for life.

    Good luck

P.S.  Alberta is also a pretty wonderful place to live.

  6. Are you talking about insulation, like in an attic?

You don't have to be an electrician to do that.

  7. i suggest you contact your local careers advice education  department they might have courses for apprenticeship's

  8. Olde is correct,  depending on where you go you will have 4 years of apprenticeship to get into any electrical field except electronics which is all schooling.  every state and province have different figures as to how much class training and how much OJT is required per year but they are close.  The states require you to go through a certified apprentice training class and then take a test to get your liscense.  Then every 3 yrs you must renew your liscense which mean 8hrs of continuing education every year or 24 hrs every three years with sometimes having to get red cross training as well.  Goodcareer  though
