I am currently enrolled at University of Massachusetts Amherst. I want to be an elementary teacher and i was thinking about going to Worcester State College because i heard it had a great teaching program. I am stuck on my decision because Umass has an option where i major in a liberal arts or science and minor in education (They dont have bachelors in Education). Then i can join this one year CTEP program to get my masters in Education. Worcester State, on the other hand, has a major in Elementary Education which i would have to do along with a liberal arts or science major. Than they have graduate school where i can get my masters in Elementary Education. For people going to hire me, would they rather hire me if i have a mastors in Elementary Education as opposed to just Education with a concentration in Elementary Education like the other program? Do employers prefer someone with a bachelors instead of masters when they first start out because of difference in pay? Should i transfer

  3. Do you want to teach now or later.  That is what you have to ask yourself.  That should tell you which school to attend.  Keep in mind, K-12 prefer you to major in education, not minor in it.  Also, you need to complete Massachusetts teacher certification requirements which are mentioned in the link below.  The Masters will get you more money in the long run, but you could also pursue a Masters in the evenings or summers and still get done in about a year.  Also, experience means a lot, and a Masters with no experience sounds like full time student rather than knowing how to teach.  That is only a perception, but one some employers will make nevertheless.  Good luck.
