I want to be an engineer, but I don't know what kind?

I am a sophomore in highschool and I am thinking about going into engineering when I get to college, but I don't know what type I should go into. What are my choices?

  1. It really depends on what you're interested in.  I'm majoring in computer science right now (which is listed as an engineering major in many colleges), and I'm enjoying it greatly.  CS is often a sort of "linking" engineering, since you do work for all sorts of different fields.  For example, my university has a huge medical program, and the CS guys do medical imaging for them.

  3. There are many engineering diciplines to choose from.  

    When you begin looking at colleges, look for one with with a cirriculum that requires all engineering students to take the a broad group of core classes such as:

    Statics

    Dynamics

    Thermodynamics

    Strength & Materials

    Electrical 101

    etc.

    (this assumes you'll already be taking Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus)

    Not only will this expose you to several types of engineering careers, it will make you a more rounded engineer regardless of your final selection.
