I dont think I want to do wedding or company type stuff..I would like to do birthday, christmas, bar/bat mitzvahs, new years parties, carnivals, parades....stuff like that..

Do I need a college degree/any degree?

If so what do I need?

Would it be smarter to work for an event planning company (apprentice maybe) or open up my own business?

If open my own business will it be succesful? how much will it cost?

Is there even any money in this business? If so..a lot? (what would be my average salary?)

If you are an event planner or work as one under someone else or an event planning company or something I would be super interested in talking to you further about this if you wouldnt mind. You can email me @ J_LA13@hotmail.com

  1. You don't have to have a degree to go into this business...but it would benefit you a lot to get one. This market is becoming more and more competitive. Look for a Hospitality program.. if you decide to go to school.

To start you should work for a private event planning company. Use that to your advantage...meet people...network...establish a client base! Then...if you still want to...look into starting your own business! Owning your own business can be very difficult though!

Were you live (or want to work) will determine the availability of work and how much you will make. Northern states...such as NY, Mass., and PA...generally have large market for this kind of stuff...also California...and most large cities (Atlanta) will have also have a large market!

A good thing for you to do now is plan parties for your friends and family...baby showers, bday parties, anniversary parties, ect. Keep good records and take pictures of what you have done. Keep a binder with all of this to use as a portfolio of your work to show to others!

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. Hi, start small. Try a birthday party for a friend. it's Lot of hard work, and planning. You need to be flex, how are you in your organization stuff? Always walking around on idea's for a party? You can start working for a company, but the company wold not be happy whit you when you start your own business.

    Good luck

  3. It would be better if you start reading books on event organizing... in this case you dont have to enroll since its doesnt require you to have formal education about event planning. The important matter in this case is that you have thousands of ideas on how to make an event super dooper extra special and of course unique.

Start small... every big shots start in small one. Try to organize party within your family, group of friens and community. In this scenario you'll learn a lot this will be your training ground! and all the errors and mistakes that you come across will serve as a practical lessons for next time events.

If you wanted to have formal education, you can study short courses of management and interior design but i suggest you study on your own, surf the nets, read magazines and books. These will save your time and money.

and last but not least you should have lots of suppliers, like foods, decor, invitation and so on...

START a LITTLE and you'll see...
