  1. Drill, drill, drill! Get a friend or two to drill with your blocking and spiking.

  2. I would recomend buying a cheap practice volleyball - this can take a beating on any outside surface - so that you can practice spiking against an outside wall - anywhere.  If you can toss the ball up, as if someone is setting for you - and then spike it - you're doing good. Doing 20 minutes to 40 minutes a day practice, will get you more confident and skillful in no time.

This will get you able to spike at any set - and hammer it home. Note - this will also help you with your spike serves - because it is the same routine. I recomend the bent elbow spike - it is the speed of the elbow straightening, for the power - and add the curling of your wrist upon contact with the ball (to add spin). When your serve hits the top of the net and then rolls over - it is working fine.

If you get bored with doing just this - then also work on your left handed (if you're right handed) spike. Sometimes you are in the wrong body position, so a left-handed spike is the only option. If you do 20 minutes practice, left handed a day, for 2 months - you will be able to use your left hand with confidence. This applies to anything left handed, including writing.

With the practice volleyball - if you can practice with others - that will be so much better. You don't need a net - just as long as you dig, set and spike at each other - that is excellent practice.  Your ball handling skills will improve dramatically.  This is what you can do in your free time - especially over holiday breaks - practice with volleyball friends or make some...

  3. well, there is no QUICK way to get better.to improve your jumping, do leg exercises...jump rope, squats, etc.  simply pass the volleyball to yourself every day, and you will improve ball handling skills.  I don't know what else to tell ya because there weren't any detail as to what position you play, but ask your coach.  he/she can give you stuff to work on at home, specifically on what you need to do.  Congrats on making the team!  Good Luck!!!!!!

  4. BUMP THE BALL FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND WALK WITH IT AROUND THE YARD IF YOU HAVE ONE.WITH A GROUP OF FRIEND GO IN A CIRCLE AND BUMP IT IN A CIRCLE. GOOD LUCK<3  :)

  5. LOL wow omg you soind just like i did last year. i play club ball too and im 6,1 and everyone always told me i had such potential. but i still didnt feel like i was doing that great!! so i got a volleyball net to put up in my backyard and i practiced like krazy!!! now this year im playing for the same club again and i've improved so much!!! so back to you all you need to do is practice!!! go to your skool weight room and gym if you have one, run the track at you skool!!!! just practice and let your coaches know that you really want to get better!! and they will work with you even your skool volleyball coaches!!! well i have alot more tips and mays that you can improve in different positions, if you wanna contact me!!! :) good luck!!! you gett better over time!!! and i have a volleyball tournament coming up soon to so who knows maybe we'll play each other!!! lol :)))))

  6. Go a little earlier than average for practice, and get in the coach's ear. Ask about open gyms, other chances to play. Buy a volleyball as soon as you can - just having one in your hands while you listen to music or watch TV will improve your ball handling skills. Search the about.com forums in volleyball for questions and answers and how to's. The only way to improve at volleyball is to play more, learn more, and want more.

As a tall player, you will probably be asked to be a force at the net. Read about blocking online, there's lots of sources. Read about how to transition - you go up for a block on defense, the other team tips it over, now what do you do?

If you are really enjoying the sport, become a student of the game. By that, I mean, watch games besides your own with your teammates and coaches. Talk about what you see other players and teams do on the court. Are they running middle quicks? True quicks, where the hitter jumps to attack right when the setter touches the ball? when you see passing errors from other teams, ask each other what happened - did she forget to move her feet? Take her eye from the ball too soon? Just a wicked serve? Is this team sure of who does what on defense? Can you see big holes you would attack? Be around the game - in hoops they call it being a gym rat. You can DO this... good luck!

  7. Move your feet really fast, show determination. Go for every ball.!!!

  8. it takes a long time to get good like me last year was my first year and when i first joined i sucked but not anymore

  9. one thing coaches love is when u are always talking on the court. meaning encourage your players talk to them when they made a bad play (ex. its okay u will do it next time) call for the ball really loud and when the coach subs u out cheer on the teammate that when in for you and always pay attention. hopefully this will help you!! good luck!
