I have been training like crazy, last year i cut my time from 31 to 23. I ran track and i have been running since. Currently I run at least 6.6 miles a day...but I am thinking about kicking my mileage up to 10-14 per day. I am 16 and want to be xc state champion. can i do it??? if not this year then the next senior year. I am looking to be running at least 16's.

  1. not to be mean but its not that big of a cut and if your hoping to cut your time from 23 mins to 16 with runing 6 miles is gonna be hard to do maybe if you kick it up.. senior year i bet youll be up there depending on your state

  2. your doing great and your time cuts are awesome! but if your going to be state champ your really going to be working harder than that.  Instead of doubling your miles i would try to go faster on those miles.  If you want to be state champ i would also change your diet.  This is what its going to take.

If you give me best answer please say what state your trying to win in>

  3. If your goal is it run 3.1 (5K) there isn't much point in running 10miles a day. What you need is a varied running schedule speed work, interval training, easy runs, and long runs. 10 miles a day isn't going to help cut down your time as much as say running two miles at a 6:00 minute pace.

  4. Get with your coach and plan things out. Dropping from 31 - 23 is fantastic. Getting into the 16's is a great goal. Depending on your state, that might put you in the mix. Goals are great. First step is to be the best on your team. (Number one goal should be to make all your teammates as good as they can be) Then, be the best in your conference...District, Region and then State. I know in Ohio, where my kids run, you would have to be in the 15's to even sniff an individual state title. There are only a few state champions out there. I would think that at 23 min you haven't cracked varsity yet. That's your first goal. Train hard, race hard and beat people. Everything will take care of itself after that. Good Luck.
