i really want to be homeschooled bc i want to focus on piano, singing, and guitar. My parents arent fond of it. you see we are going to be moving in less than 30 days and this was a sign to me that i need to change and my dream will come true. I make good grade and kept a pretty steady 4.0 since 3rd grade. Tehy think i am running away from hiigh school but fact is i want to do other things. So any tips on how to persuade or any websites on it. Plus my mom doesnt know where to start with homeschooling and if she could have a job and still homeschool me or what not.

  1. We use Sonlight Curriculum.  My daughter is 16 and is able to follow the study guides by herself.  She enjoys it a lot.  It is a Christian company, but people of many denominations, religions, or even no religion, use it.  The high school courses are set up so that the student can do all the work on his own, though, of course, the parent is encouraged to participate.  In your case, you could do your lessons during the day, and your mom could go over them with you in the evening, or whenever she's off work.

I agree with the person who suggested showing responsibility in other areas.  That will go a LONG way toward showing your parents that you can handle this.

  2. Here's a link for an online public school. Check them out.

Just be as responsible as possible around the house and consider going to work with your mom or finding a stay at home mom where you could hang out and do school during the week.

  3. Well, you can start by presenting information to your mother.  Ignorance (lack of knowledge on a topic, such as homeschooling) causes fear, and she might be scared because it is unknown to her.  Ease her fears.  Start by visiting http://www.HSLDA.org to find the requirements for homeschooling in Alabama.

Virtual school is not really homeschooling-you are still a public school student, you just take your classes online.  Check out your state Department of Education's website to find out if there is a virtual school available in Alabama (I think that most have K12 and/or Connections Academy).

Whether you do traditional homeschooling or virtual schooling, at your age you can do most of your work independently.  I would say that it is most certainly possible for your mother to work and for you to be homeschooled.

I hope this helps, and wish you the best!
