I want to be in the best XI at all times - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Copeland-c2709 - Cricket News Update
Trent Copeland, the right-arm medium pacer of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, has said that he wantsto be in Australia’s best XI at all times, even as a back up for injured or axed bowlers.
With the quartet of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 doubtful for next week’s Brisbane Test, chances of Copeland being included in Australia’s playing XI seem quite bright.
The 25-year-old New South Wales' medium pace bowler has said that though an injury to prolific all-rounder Shane Watson has given him hopes of making Australia’s Test squad against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 next week, he wants to be an integral part of the national team.
"...I certainly don't look at it that way, I want to be in the best XI at all times, not just when people are injured,” said Copeland while talking to the media reporters on Thursday.
"In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 I was picked where there was not one bowler in Australia injured but I was able to be in the best XI for three Tests. Provided the right situation occurs and the right conditions are there, then I'm still in the mix no matter who's fit or who's
firing and all that kind of stuff," he added further.
Copeland failed to make a cut for Australia A’s squad for the ongoing four-day tour game against New Zealand because he was the 12th man during Australia’s recently concluded Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, in Johannesburg earlier this week.
Originally he was also ruled out of New South Wales' upcoming Sheffield Shield match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, allowed him to feature in the Shield game starting at SCG on Friday, November 25.
Copeland hailed Clarke’s decision of letting him play in the first-class game ahead of Gabba Test saying, that it would allow him get some match practice in beforehand.
"it is a good opportunity if I'm in that squad to get some match practice in beforehand, having bowled in the nets for quite a while the last couple of weeks," said Copeland.
He said that even if he fails to make the cut for Gabba Test, the SCG game would provide him an opportunity to press his claims for a spot in the national side with some good show with the ball.
