  1. well if u look up the definiton of an std it will answer most of your question...and std means SEXUALLY TRANSMITTIED DISEASE...

  2. In most cases, one acquires an STD from sexual activity. However, there are cases in which people are born with HIV or Herpes when their mother passes the virus to them through the birth canal.

Any type of sexual activity can cause STDs. I completely understand what you are saying regarding teenagers being misinformed. Planned Parenthood once stated that teenagers would be "confused" if they were told that condoms weren't 100% effective, or they would use them less, so Planned Parenthood and s*x Ed in schools tries to make it sounds like if you use a condom, you cannot get an STD.

Condoms are tremendously helpful for some STDs, like HIV, but for many they don't offer much protection. Herpes and HPV, for example spread from SKIN TO SKIN contact, meaning you can still get herpes or HPV from s*x even when using a condom. This is because the infected person could have herpes or HPV on an area that is not covered by the condom.

Every time you have any type of sexual activity, you run the risk of contracting herpes or HPV. Even virgins can get STDs, because STDs can be caused from a wide range of sexual activities that don't involve actual intercourse.

I was sexually assaulted when a man put his finger into my v****a after masterbating. I thought that I was alright and didn't get any STDs because we didn't actually have "intercouse." However, I got HPV and herpes from the attack, because herpes and HPV survived on his finger after he touched his p***s.

So remember, "fingering," "hand jobs", "petting", "grinding", oral s*x, etc. ANY TYPE of sexual activity can spread STDs.  Condoms do reduce the risk, somewhat, but not entirely. Every time you engage in a sexual activity, you run the risk of getting herpes.

Now some STDs can be cured. Most that are caused by bacterial infections (Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea) are easily cured because it is easy for doctors to isolate bacteria and kill it. However, STDs that are caused by viruses are much harder to cure. At this time, there is no cure for herpes because it is always in a dormant state, making it hard for scientists to kill the virus. HPV is incurable. However, the vast majority of people make the virus dormant in two years or less with their immune system.

HIV is the most dangerous of all, and there is currently no cure. It is passed through bodily fluids, like s***n, vaginal fluids, etc.

I highly recommend staying abstinent until you are much older and can have s*x with a committed boyfriend/husband that you KNOW is clean of STDs. Planned Parenthood will try to tell you that as long as you use a condom, you will be OK. You might be well protected against HIV, since the condoms stops the s***n from getting into your v****a, but it is is virtually useless against Herpes and HPV.

Abstinence is the ONLY WAY to ensure that you are not infected with an STD. Most people with STDs have NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS. 1 in 5 men and 1 in 4 women have genital herpes, but 90% of those with herpes don't know they have it, because symptoms are so small. However, even if they don't show symptoms, they are still able to spread it to others.

There are tests for many STDs, but not all. Currently, there is no test for HPV in men. That is dangerous because a guy can honestly say that he went to the doctor and was cleared of all STDs. However, if

he did have HPV, it would be impossible to tell.

Good luck!! Go to WebMD.com or some reputable site on STDs. Don't go to a Planned Parenthood site. They are in the business of making teens sexually active. They want you to get STDs an get pregnant, so they can make money of of treating your STDs and your abortions. WebMD.com would be a great resource.

Here are some great sites to start:

    http://www.cdc.gov/std/

(That is the Center of Disease Control Site so it is Reputable)

    http://www.webmd.com/s*x-relationships/h...

    (Web MD)

Good luck! Stay abstinent so you don't get an STD.
