OK so I am a long-distance runner.

I don't mean to brag, but I'm pretty good. I usually come 2nd or 3rd in most races.

Only, I ALWAYS beaten by this girl named Margaret-Anne. She's so fast, and she's probably the best girl runner in my grade.

I promised my friend Abby, who usually is the reason I come 3rd in races, that I would beat MA since she (abby) has left the school.

How can I beat her in lost distance?

I can never get in front of her, because she's SO far ahead!

Any good techniques? And for those who know what a beep test, my best at the end of last year's term was 9.5. MA got 10.2. Abby got 9.4.

Anyway, main question is if you have a good technique or two to running faster while going long-distance.

  1. Well tips:

    1) Train more-This always helps, maybe about 3-4 times a week fairly brisk run about 30 minuts at a time.

    2) Interval training-I find this the BEST way to improve my fitness and stamina over long distances for example, find a field nice and flat with low grass. Then maybe run fast for 2 mins then medium pace for 4 mins then slow for 4 mins. Repeat this 3-6 times and you will notice and instant improvement in your running style and stamina!

    3) Eating well-This is very important and will test how much you really want to beat this girl. You must make sure you eat well but there is a difference between eating well and eating nothing. The key when trying to eat well is to eat more! This sounds crazy but if you give up say chips and then have nothing to replace them, your craving for them will become insane, where as if you find something to replace them you will hardly notice!

    4) When racing-The comment above telling you to go  out in the lead I would have to disagree with. It is always best to stay 2nd but right on there tail; the reasons for this being, if its windy then let the person infront ake all the wind whilst you cruise from behind and on the last 200 just go for it inside every runner theres that last burst of energy! You just have to find it!!

Hope this helps! Its what i do and i get 13.7 in bleep test :)

    Good Luck!!

  2. you must train hard 1st.then as you start the race, dun chase over her first at the first few lap. as you chase over her, you will feel great pressure in order to maintain your speed because you worried that she will chase over you again. you will struggle physically and mentally too. juz keep very close to her make her afraid. cut her when you feel that the time when you feel that she's really tired or cut her at the last 200m and sprint as fast as you could and end the race(i used to this method).and i dun open my mouth to breath because will make my throat thirsty and dry. more tired. depends on you. hope it helps. and here i pray that you can beat her as soon as possible.good luck...

  3. i had my districts carnival today and i wasn't very good and i am a long distance runner if 400 and 800 metres count well anywaiiz i dont have a technique i just trust in my abilities and do the very best i can its not important to win its just that you have to do ur very best.

btw i am 13 and i got 10.9 on the beep test

  4. if you can get the lead right at the start and just keep powering ahead the initial distance will get her out of her comfort zone make her run faster then what shes used to at the start but whatever happens don't let her pass eventually her confidence will start to fade as she begins to wonder if she can actually catch you if she is trying harder then shes used to at the start it will throw her whole game off... from my experiences once youve got the initial lead no one can catch you thats why shes beating you she feels comfortable once shes in front because shes setting the pace .... take her out of her comfort zone...... and GOOD LUCK
