I got in to almost every D.O school, but I am scared to do surgery because all of the law suits.

Does a .D.O have to do surgery, cant he just check the patient and write the medication?

  1. you mean osteopathic medicine.

no, you do not have to do surgery. as a d.o. you would practice like normal physicians with a focus on the musculoskeletal system.

Surgery is performed by doctors who specialise in the area of surgery, years of specialist training is required. Surgeons start out performing minor procedures, it takes years of experience to build up to more complicated surgeries.

As a dooctor, you will be required to know a lot about the basics of surgery, but you do not have to be a surgeon, so enjoy med school :)

  2. No, you are not required to do surgery, as a doctor you can have your own specialty.  Not sure about the school, however.  Check the courses and see about them.
