  1. Some obvious choices for you are Political Science for a major and a minor in History.  But I would advise to take as many classes in communications as possible; after all, your communication skills are crucial to becoming a good teacher.  Take all the public speaking classes you can... it's great practice.

  2. You would be a secondary education major with a concentration in social studies. You would take political science as a minor

  3. Focus on current events and history courses in h.s.

In college, major in history or they may call it social studies.  You would be a secondary education major. (teaching grades 7-12)  I would do a dual major if possible. But do your history courses first.  Choose something that you enjoy.  You want to be marketable to school districts.  I have several friends who just majored in history and can't get a job.   I majored in English and History.  You can also add a major later if you decided to get your masters.

  4. I hate to tell you this but the field of social studies teaching is one of the least needed majors.  I would recommend getting certified in Library Science as a back up...this is a field that there are many jobs available in.  You can get in a district and transfer into a social studies position.  I am not sure that there will be a lot of openings to teach government...some states do not even require government to graduate.

  5. Take a look at Kent State's website at their degree plans.  You will take history classes, speech, statistics (to help you understand political polling).  I would definitely take a class on Middle Eastern history and Chinese history.

  6. One thing which is important is to work very hard during your tertiary education.secondly you have to be courageous
