I want to become a highway patrol?

Question

I want to become a highway patrol for a while once I finish high school. Or even a regular cop who pulls over cars. This will be in New York City.

Is this possible, or do I need to go to a special college or something?

You want a degree in criminal justice, and/or military experience.  I decided to go with the degree route, and plan to get my masters in criminal justice (I would like to teach as well).  You will face a lot of competition if you have no degree or military experience.  State police is a lot more competitive than local, and each has their own requirements and fitness guidelines that you must meet to be able to apply.  I would try applying to both as soon as you are eligible to take the civil service exams.
