I want to become a math teacher?

I am currently a psychology major. Can i still be a math teacher by going to grad school? or do i ahve to change majors to do this?

  1. You could finish your degree in psychology and then go back and get your alternate certification in teaching.  At least I know Louisiana offers this program.  Check around your state and see if they offer anything like this.


  2. As long as you get your Masters in Education, you can then teach. I'm guessing you mean high school. Talk to your career center to see if you can change majors without losing any credits. It would be to your benefit to get some student teaching time as that will tell you if you like the profession.

  3. It depends on what level math you want to teach. For elementary, most schools have an Early and Elementary Education major, which you would have to switch to. You will have to change your major to Math if you want to do an upper level math. When you get to grad school you will be getting your masters in Education. So yes, you will have to change your major. I hope you aren't too far into it, though! Good luck!
