I have decided to pursue the career of a broadcast journalist/foreign reporter. I want to work for a major station ( ie Fox News, CNN, NBC, ABC, FOX). I pretty much want to be like Shepard Smith. I am a senior in high school. How do I reach my goal?

  1. I was told to blog, blog, blog about current events. (I was told this by a professional journalist) New media is the new thing in journalism. If your high school doesn't have a newspaper, submit your stories online to websites such as associatedcontent.com, suite101.com. There's a ton of websites that need freelance writers. Apply. Any experience is good for your career.

  2. the only thing i know about this is Anderson Cooper of CNN who tried desperately to work for NBC, but they would not even give him a basic desk job. So, he went to Africa (i think it was Rwanda) and he took a home camera a recorded himself reporting etc etc. He then sent his videos to NBC who then hired him as a full on reporter.  (i think it was NBC.. i could be wrong)

now, of course, i wouldn't recommend doing this. i think you just need to take English and world events classes and eventually get a position at a news station, then work your way up

  3. yes you want to become a newscaster or reporter just study hard and you reach your goal......good luck
