Hello my name is samantha, I live in florida but are going to Arizona. I have done drugs in high school, But no longer doing them I have been clean. I wanted to know if anyone can help me understand what to do because I don't want to fail. I only have one crime on my history and that was driven without my license when I was 16 years old. I know in my heart this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. But I scared i will fail because I won't lie to them. please help me understand what I can do.

  1. I know that in some jurisdictions if you have ever tried something like cocaine , herion or x you are disqualified, and you have to allow 24 months to go by if you've smoked pot. others aren't as stricted. You'll take a polygraph if it's a very big city/ state county and the interviewer will at least act as if they are putting alot of  importance on the poly. I failed mine but got hired anyway. I did not want to admit that I had drove drunk recently , and often. Just tell the truth and you should be fine and if you fail you still have a shot b/c alot of agencies are desperatly needing people

  2. if you go through life not failing you're not pushing yourself hard enough.

i assure you no police officer was a saint in their day. just be HONEST. they will appreciate that more than a perfect youth. explain how you changed your ways and how as a police officer you'd like to make that kind of impact in another troubled child's life.

  3. Just go for it.  I think you will do fine.  good luck and be careful!

  4. What you can do is answer all questions honestly when completing applications and during interviews. Whether or not you are disqualified due to past drug use could depend on what drugs you have used, how many times you have used them, and how long it has been since you've last used drugs. It could also depend on the department. Some department's standards are more stringent than others when it comes to what is considered acceptable. 5. Go to the interviews and answer all questions honestly and to the best of your ability.  If you are that afraid of failure, don't try. You will not fail.
