i am 13 years old and when i am an adult i want to be one of the officers who goes around to school to prevent illegal drug using, drinking, and smoking and parties and over all youth crime. if my mom could have had people do that when she was 14 then it would have saved our familey alot of trouble. she chose to rebel and go to drinking parties and became pregnent at the age of 14. she lost the baby becasue her body was not ready to carry a child. she dealt with the pain by drug use. she used drugs untill she was 18 then becasue pregnent with me and stopped. nobody knew untill i was 9 and i had two younger sibling. she just took off because she couldnt handle the stress anymore and used drugs again. it took her 2 full years for her to get us back and she still goes to NA meeting. i want to change people lives by trying to prevent this becasue i knew my life could have been awhole lot better if someone had been there to show my mom the dangers. how can i go about pursuing my goal? does anybody else have this job? what is it like? how many years of training do i need? what majors should i take in the later years in highschool? please answer. 10 points for the best answer!

  1. Contact local community college ask for admissions office or officer, and ask them for prerequisites for an associates or bachelors law enforcement ok?

  2. You should get the best grades you can in school. Keep a good reputation. Participate in extracurricular activities. Graduate from high school. Attend college. College is becoming more and more important for law enforcement careers. You then visit the websites of the police departments you are interested in. Find out if they have school resource officers. Some larger school districts even have their own police officers. Most police departments have websites that provide detailed information about minimum qualifications, how to apply, and the hiring process. School resource officers are simply police officers that are selected to work in the schools. Many school resource officers are also D.A.R.E. officers and G.R.E.A.T. officers. In high school and college, you should study about psychology and drug abuse and prevention among other things. Check out http://www.peaceofficerjobs.com for excellent information and advice about becoming a police officer.

  3. Well I think the people who came over to my school and did that were regular police officers who worked for DARE or a similar organization. So I would be a criminal justice major in college or take criminal justic/civics classes and then become a police officer. After that maybe you can get more involved with particular organizations.

  4. You need to join a police force and work your way up through the ranks to become an SRO (student resource officer) or DARE officer. This job goes to people who have been with the force for quite sometime. You still have to perform routine police duties on top of the school duties.

You might consider volunteering with a group that does this type of work. Check with your local volunteer center.

  5. Most police departments now require a person to have at least 2 years of college before they can join the force.  You will have to become a patrol officer first.  In any job you do, you have to start at the bottom before you get the chance to do the specific job you want.  After a couple of years as a patrol officer, then you would be eligible to apply for the position you really want.  Check with your local police department about doing volunteer work for them or if they have a police explorers group.  Police explorers are young people who are interested in a career in law enforcement.  It will give you the opportunity to interact with police officers and see what their jobs are really like.  When you're old enough and have the basic requirements to become a police officer, you could have an advantage in getting hired if you were a police explorer or had done volunteer work for the police.

  6. Well are you wanting to be a security guard? Thats where you make sure kids are safe going to and from school on school property??

It takes alot of courage, and its best if you learn from your mom's mistakes and don't want to grow up and be like that cause some people say they don't know any different, and so they keep living the way they were raised.. so your a step ahead of the crowd and that will help you as you get older. you should be very proud of that fact.. And sometimes when kids have it hard growing up, they choose to make there life better once they are adults.. congrats to you.

I'd ask a teacher or a councilor about how long you'd have to go to school if you'd have to go to school(college) and the police acamemdy.. best of luck to you!
