  1. Since your interested in primary, you should work at a daycare with the older kids (pre-school room or something). Boys and Girls Club or other community center in the area. Tutoring or mentoring program. Summer camps. You could also volunteer at public schools or public libraries.

  2. Im a teacher in the UK so i know that you need to do a 4 year degree in which you get all the experience you need.  You can also do a postgraduate teaching course after you have finished an honours degree in a relevent subject.  To get into this course you will need experience of actually working in a primary school.  We have lots of students who work in our school for free to gain experience before applying to courses.

The postgrad course is a year long but it is very intensive.  The 4 year course gives lots of practical experience but is a lot of work.  Im not sure how the american system works but hopefully this was some help!

Good Luck! It's a great job to get into :)

  3. I'am a teacher also. Working with kids is a great pleasure and I'm glad you made that choice! But sometimes you will regret it when the students start yelling. If you want some experience try working for a child-care program or a teachers-aid. Would could even try to work with kids who have dissablities. Hope you make a great teacher someday!

  4. Substitute teaching, working as a paraprofessional (teachers aid) at an elementary school, after school child care, tutoring, getting involved in Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts of America, work at summer camps, local youth organizations, Parks and Recreation departments...

  5. I am a teacher in a Scottish school. I know people who have previously worked as an auxiliary and as support assistants before going onto the four year degree course. While I was a student I worked with holiday clubs and most teachers I know have been involved with Sunday School clubs or Brownies, Cubs, Guides to help add to their cv.

  6. Just continue doing more of the same.  Also Councils run special summer schools to keep kids off the streets during the summer holls.  You could consider applying for one of those.
