What camera would be the very best?

I was looking into maybe a Nikno D60 Digital SLR?

I want a REAL camera too, not one that you use to get quick snapshots of your friends and family.

Suggestions?

  1. A pro camera, thats a camera that will be used everyday all year long and will have to withstand 150,000 shutter firings before it needs servicing. The Nikon D3, about 5 grand or the Canon Mark 4, about 8 grand is your best bet. A Nikon D60 is a toy compared to a pro camera.

  2. Their are now a Nice Variety of SLR & DSLR Camera's, now.

    I recomend a Canon Brand.

Canon's Always take the Best Pictures (From my Experience).

I would Not to pay the Big Buck$ for a Sony. Sony has gotten their Finger in too much, and they Try to make Everything they make the Best. This isn't realy possible to do.

They make the Best TV's & Stereo Equiptment. Everything else is equal to being Competitor's Quality.

Nikon's are actualy quiet nice. But Canon's never fail to Impress me, and they are Very Easy to use.

Canon has been making Camera's Forever, and they Know Exactly how to make a d**n good Camera for the Price.

And Get a Camera with a Good Zoom, like 10x or Better.

I might recomend you Start Out with a Medium-Sized Camera, and not one of those $800+ Mile-Long Telescoping Lenses type Camera's.

Don't get me Wrong. You Want a Big Zoom. But your not a Pro yet. you need some Practice. Don't go Overkill on a Camera someone would used in The Ozark, or something.

And keep in mind, the more you pay for a Camera, the more of a Commodety you have. If it get's Damaged, can you Afford to Fix it?!? Keep that in mind.

  3. Nikon DSLRs are a definite.  Nikon also still makes a normal camera body (manual unit) for which you can buy the lenses.  Another camera that pros use is Hassleblad (I think spelling right) which is a large format camera (larger film).  These use Zeiss lenses which are probably the best in the world.  Nikon lenses are very good as well and actually rival Zeiss.

Many of the high end Digital SLR cameras would work as a day to day unit and would allow for the immediate editing in a computer.

What you need is the ability to change lenses and the ability to change settings easily.  This was where the 35mm SLR cameras excelled as you could change several settings easily.  Now some cameras are aperture priority and others are shutter speed priority.  Shutter speed are more for action shots as speed of capture is important.  Aperture is for different light conditions.  So buy something that allows for the most flexibility in use.

  4. Canon's entry-level cameras are the Rebel XSi and the Rebel XS.  Nikon's entry-level cameras are the D40, D40X, and D60.  Those would all be good choices for a beginner's DSLR.

You probably don't want to buy the "very best" just yet, because that would be very expensive.

  5. Your very best bet is to stick to ANY digital SLR camera.  In the PRO world it is somewhat divided.  Half the pros love CANON, the other half love NIKON.  Both have great reputations for great cameras.

I would suggest you take a look at www.dpreview.com where pro photographers & others have written reviews on all the cameras you may be interested in.  It will tell the positive & negative things as well as to compare the specs of different models you might want to buy.

I personally use the Nikon D2X. Beautiful camera! But with today's technology you don't have to have the latest, greatest, and most expensive to do AWESOME Work!  The other half is based on your hard work, knowledge, and creativity!  Go FOR IT Girl!
