  1. Hello,

Way to go!  If you've been running for 3 weeks and are up to 3 miles, you're over that initial hump.

The key is gradual increases in mileage and speed.  If you can run 3 miles, I'd go ahead and sign up for a 5k.  Having a race goal is a great way to stay focused.

Keep up the good work!  If you want to be a runner...keep on running ;-).

  2. Running is a great warm up for weight lifting.  Helps warm the muscles and gets the heart rate up.  My advice run before you start your lifting, then afterwards make sure you spend 15 – 20 minutes stretching as well.  This will help both your work in the gym and running.

    Good luck

  4. Congrats!  You are well on your way to achieving your goals.  Scientifically, there are pluses and minuses as to which to hit first.  I am a run first then gym sort of person.  There is a lot of muscle mechanics that occur during running and if you run tired you can change the way you run and over 3 miles you can do some serious damage not only to the way your run but also in putting yourself at risk for stress fractures, knee injuries, etc.

On the other hand, you have more control in the weight room.  You can lower the weight (you can change speed in running, but you can't change your weight as easily) of the exercise that you are doing. You also have a variety of exercises to do. Upper body one day, lower the next.  Push exercises then pull.  The list is endless.

If you don't like my reasoning, then I would do the one you don't like as much first.  You get it done, and then you have your prize of doing the other.  Or you can always alternate them too.  This will give you a completely different workout.

Variety is actually going to be more effective in achieving your goals than anything else.

    Good luck!
