(not vegan!) I'm thinking and most likely am going to become a vegetarian but i don't know how to slowly become one. i don't really know what foods that have all the vitamins I'm supposed to get and i need to know the healthiest vegetarian foods out there.

i think what would be easier for me is to slowly cut out eating certain meats and eating something else instead. ex: pizza-- i usually get pepperoni.

my dinner is basically a vegetable, meat, and potatoes/rice. what could replace the meat?

i eat chicken which is the only kind of meat i eat besides pepperoni.

  1. Same here I am turning into a veggie!!! You can get stuff like Quorn mince, southern style burgers, spaghetti balls ,tofu and beans are very good and sunflower seeds. Also you should give up red meat first (beef, lamb, pork) they poultry (turkey, chicken) and then if you want to fish. GOOD LUCK !!!!

  2. Start out by cutting out how much red meat you eat, but keep eating chicken and other lean meats.  After a while, cut those out too if you want to become totally vegetarian.  I would recommend cutting something out every 1 or 2 weeks, just to give you body time to adjust.  There are a lot of things that you can eat to get protein.  If you like soy, you could try that. I love edamame, personally. Also tofu and fish are good sources of protein, unless you decide to not eat fish.  Milk and other dairy products provide a good source of protein too.  You'd be surprised how much protein and vitamins there are in vegetables, especially broccoli, beans, and other dark green vegetables.  Eat tons of veggies! Not so many fruits though, because of the sugar content.  Like, you could keep celery and carrots around the house and snack on those instead of chips or pepperoni and stuff like that.  It's much healthier for you.  These are some my favorite, healthy vegetarian foods: edamame, celery, broccoli, pita bread and hummus, vegetable stir fry with rice, veggie pizza, veggie subs from subway

Just make sure you don't start eating a lot of carbohydrates, because on a vegetarian diet, it is easy to do.  I hope this helps a little and good luck with your diet!!

  3. fish is a good for protein. so is soymilk, and tofu(stirfrys). even if ur not giving up milk, if u try to replace milk with soymilk(silk is a good brand n_n) u wont just be gatting all the calcuim of milk, but soy can replace meat. plus try to have whole grains as well. motzerella cheese on whole grain bread is a complete protiene ♥

  6. If you watch Earthling and think about it when you see meat, it may be much easier to pass it up.

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

It may help you if you see proof that vegetarians have the same potential as anyone else.
