I am in year 9 and am about to pick my options. I have been surfing the internet for ideas on what options I need to choose but all the sites I have found only tell you about A levels.

Can someone please tell me the best possible GCSE's I could take to maximise my chance of getting into a good vetinary college.

Also, I get very good grades and whatever subjects I need to take I WILL get at least A's in.

  1. Good for you that you are focusing on the future.

I would recommend you take a wide variety of GCSE as possible in order to maximise your options (without intending to be patronising) at this early stage - Chemistry / Maths & Physics as a separate subject option will stand you in good stead - Biology obviously and a Language to demonstrate your versatility in Learning may well prove beneficial.

If you can also demonstrate an early willingness to be 'involved' in some hands on capacity - however small - eg  A volunteer at your local Animal Sanctuary / Local Veterinary Practice at Weekends - it would go for you in terms of practical experience.

Concentrate on achieving the very best Grades you can as competition for places is fierce and Universities can afford to pick and choose from the very best candidates.

    Good Luck - Best wishes!

  2. deffinately all the sciences :) and maybe a health and social class :) x

  3. I want to be a vet, and I have chosen triple science (definitely need this), french, italian and history, plus core subjects. I chose the last three because I like them and will probably (hopefully) get good grades. You need to to well in maths. I looked up on the internet when I was picking them last year (school year) and it said for this particular university, I need an A-A* in Chemistry, Biology and Maths and one other subject of your choice (preferably physics) in your A-levels. GCSE's are important too. I don't think you should say  "I get very good grades and whatever subjects I need to take I WILL get at least A's in." because although it's good to be confident, being over confident makes you slack therefore you don't work as hard, then you get disappointing results (this happened to my cousin and my friend's brother and some other people).
