i found a program in my area that i can become certified to take the test to become an RN. It takes 14 months and its mon-fri 8am-6pm, so i would not be able to work. I have a 2 year old daughter and im not married. I live on my own also. Is there such thing as grants that pay for your living expenses? There is NO way i could go to school and take care of me and her without working.

im just really confused about this and i dont know where to start.

This is a big thing and im havent started to do anything yet bc im scared that i wont have money to support us.

is there a way to find out what im elidgible for without going through the whole enrollment process. Im afraid i will go through the whole thing and find out im not going to be able to do it bc i have no money.....

ANY advice would be appreciated!!

  1. Does the school participate in the federal aid programs?  If so, complete the application on line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.  This will allow you to be considered for grants and low-interest student loans.  Once the application is received by the school make sure you let them know that you won't be working and making the income that you made last year.

If the school does not participate you'll be very limited in options.  There are many lenders that offer loans to help you pay your educational costs, but the interest rate will be pretty high.  However, if it's your only option, you may want to look into it.

  2. Try looking here. It’s an excellent site with some wonderful options for you. You won't regret opening it. It will definitely help you. Have a look.

  3. Yes, do your fafsa on line and see what happens.  You will still have to apply for admission to the school, but most schools will give you an award letter based on full time enrollment before you actually enroll in classes.

The grants can be a fair amount for single mothers, but the cost of your school makes a BIG difference as well... if you are attending a for-profit expensive trade school rather than a community college your may not get enough grants and loans to cover living expenses.  It also makes a BIG difference your costs for rent and car and such...

Here is a good book.  The max Pell grant one can receive is 4700 per year IF you qualify.  Independent freshman can usually borrow upwards of 7500 a year.

If you are thinking you can't afford to go back to school, consider moving you and your daughter in with a relative for 14 months.. that is what my mom did when she decided to go back.. with 2 little kids.
