I've been told by some of my friends that I'm a great actress and I should try out for commercials and things but I don't know where to start. Last year I was in my schools production of Annie, I played Annette and I had 3 lines. Not exactly impressive, i guess, but that's really all the experience I have, that and skits in classes. I'm 13, live in Delaware and don't know where to go for classes and such! Any help?

  1. hmmm...i dont think that there is much you can do in Delaware...but if they have any theatre or art schools its a plus on your resume

  2. The casting couch usually works for many budding actresses.

  3. Looks like you already have a good start: keep doing plays at your local community theater, school and church (if you are religious.) Take lots of classes for training: acting classes at theaters, dance classes such as tap, ballet, jazz hip-hop etc for dance experience needed in musical theater, then get a voice coach and join a choir to improve your singing voice. If your school has a drama club and or drama elective class it can also be very beneficial. Then when you have lots of experience you can accumulate an extensive resume' that you can take to any of a number of reputable agencies in the Delaware area. Agents will help to find you acting jobs thus you will continue to flourish in your acting career.

    Best of luck

  4. Well if you are truly dedicated to it and have made up your mind to do this you should first start by finding classes. Google search or something or use the phone book to find classes around you.

You'll learn everything you need to to get your career off from there (maybe) if you know what to ask and who to ask.

  5. well your school had a play and a play needs a director right? lol Talk to him/her and see if they have advice. If not, the yellow pages is an easy way to look for classes. usually they're at a university or something. but if your serious serious....an agent. =]

listen you'll need practice...i think you know that.lol one part is not good enough but keep up with community theatres and such. practice dialogues with friends...

and then one day you'll need an agent. Now here is how you get one:

sorry but its not gonna be a walk in the park....

    1) any previous acting experience onstage?

    2) taken any acting classes?

    3) live nearby an agency. you can look up talent agencies online and in the yellow pages

    4) they look for professional recent headshots. Photographer quality. this can be pricey.

    5) Have good audition experience. Most agencies look for this because they want to know what they're going to be representing before hand. And they want to see if you have the talent. The best way to be prepared for this is to have all the audition experience you can get, whether its just audtitioning for local community theatre or what.

    6) don't get ripped off. Some agencies are nothing but a scam. As a starting career, don't look to shed out big bucks to these people unless they are ligit and can promise you a blossoming career. If they demand a high amount of money, they're not worth it. That is until, your making more money off of gigs they got you.

its not easy and i'm not sayng it can't be done, but there are so many things they look for, its nearly impossible. You literally have to be one in a million these days.

So confide in close friends and family members...let them know this is what you want cause your gonna need all the support you can get.

Most importantly...be yourself. don't change for anybody or because you think they'll like it better if you act a certain way. be original. thats what stands out.
