I have two questions. If I get as far as obtaining a CPL, what does having this licence entitle me to do? Also I have mild asthma, can I get through the class 1 medical (I have been doing some research and it seems like I can). Many Thanks

  1. allows u to become a commercial pilot

    Good luck!

  2. It will allow you to be paid to fly. Asthma, no worries.

  3. Commercial Pilot License allows you to be able to fly for hire or reward. You would also need to obtain and Instrument Rating if you want to fly for the airlines.

Good luck - it is worth it!

To find out about asthma, speak to the CAA medical department on 01293 573674

  4. You can't get a Commercial Pilot's License.  It's called a Certificate.

As for the medical question, check with the local AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) and ask.  I think (if memory serves me correctly) it will depend on whether medication's necessary, etc.  He/She is the best person to answer that one.

Good luck in becoming a pilot.  It's really great!

  5. The licence will need to be enhanced with type approval for a commercial airline to even consider you.

Be sure you check out exactly what a commercial pilots role and career prospects are.

I flew on a ppl for 3 years and got bored witless with it.

Larger airlines have thier own schools.

One of the big problems they have with modern airliners is stopping the pilot and crew getting bored. They specifically leave some tasks manual because its such a boring job.

Many commercial pilots earn less than a plumber or electrician.

The industry has carrer problems because the entry criteria are quite high - they want clever people - but the job itself is boring and process driven, with no room for initiative.
