  1. Do your research and find schools that offers a field school program and have  professors that work in the area of your interest.  Archaeologist must have an interest in science, history and math as well as excavation. Do you like to work outside or are you a lab person? Would you mind digging for weeks and the only thing you find is nothing but very interesting layers of soil? Archaeology can be very tedious. It is lots of paper work as well as lab work.  We are not Indiana Jones.

  2. yea follow ur dreams

  3. Archaeology, eh?  Try Berkely in California.  Where is Auburn?

  4. Yeah, and I wanna be a cowboy.

  5. You have my support!

    Archeology is so rewarding!

  6. A school that has undergraduate programs in anthropology would probably be able to provide you with appropriate BA/BS training. If you can, try to find a school that offers opportunities to do fieldwork, or try your best to do a summer field school in archaeology. That hands-on experience makes a huge difference in your appeal as a graduate candidate in archaeology and biological anthropology. Also, it enables you to make connections with professors who can write recommendation letters when you apply to grad schools.

And, doing the work of archaeology is the only way to learn what the every day business of being an archaeologist is really like (I wouldn't want to discourage you, but it's often tough, tedious, dirty, and generally unglamorous--and it doesn't command a huge salary).

Also, see what opportunities the school might offer to do honors work as an undergrad (honors thesis). That is also impressive if you're aiming for an advanced degree. If you can manage to get your name on any kind of published paper during your undergraduate career, even better.

I would recommend doing some research on anthropology departments, and possibly art history deparments also (art history and arch are sometimes together), and contacting people at the school to discuss the opportunities they offer.

    Good luck to you.

  7. Look into colleges that have practical archaeology programs. University of Wisconsin LaCrosse has a BA in archaeology. Otherwise you will probably get an anthropology degree. Look at different universities and see what classes they offer, if they have slim pickings in archaeology classes, look elsewhere. Also, you need to do a field school- look for colleges that have field schools, and my recommendation is that you do a field school in a region you like to do.

Also, you should already plan to get your M.A.

I will tell you that archaeologists have a rough life. It is not like Tomb Raider, or Indiana Jones, or National Treasure. It is long hours, lots of schooling, physical labor, and very little pay.

However, I love it. Choose your destiny. Are you the type of person that will be happy and poor, or the type of person that will be rich and unhappy.

If you would like I will talk to you more about archaeology. I tell many of my students.... I can tell you in 1/2 hour why you should be an archaeologist... but I can convince you in 5 minutes to not be an archaeologist.

  8. do it. my step mom is one and she loves it
