I want to become vegetarian...?

...but I'm not sure how to start. I know that I don't eat meat but are there websites telling me exactly what others foods to eat that give me the nutrients I need? What products should I avoid? Like I know gelatin has like horse hooves(or so I've heard) in it so I don't eat marshmallows. Are there any good websites out there? I don't want to drink milk or eat eggs either...I watched a video called Meet your Meat and it really strucka cord with me. I'd like to help.

  1. Become a vegetarian. But don't watch or listen to anything from PETA, and that 'Meet your Meat' video is bs.

  2. start when you very young

  3. Gelatin does not come from horse hooves.

  4. PETA.org can help with all your questions, concerns and eating habits. It will tell you what uses meat and what doesn't. Gelatin is boiled pigs fat. So just give the website a quick check and you can learn a lot. But really, vegetarian isn't the way to go. Most people don't get enough iron and protein in their body. If you still want to help the animals, get involved with shelters or don't use products tested on animals. Talk to your dietion for more.

  5. Congrats on wanting to become veg, it is fairly easy!

Awesome that you want  to go vegan! This blog is good: http://veganpeace.blogspot.com . It has links to guides, information, reasons to go veg, recipe sites, foods to eat, other vegan blogs, nutrition, tips and ideas, just go to toggle post. Good place to start there:

Some other sites that will help:

Just remember check the ingredients and research on nutrition and what foods to eat (links above)! It is also best to avoid dairy if going vegetarian instead of vegan.

  6. Your off to a good start!

The only other thign I could think of to avoid would be rennet, found in cheese. But, there are plenty of alternatives, such as Tillamook vegetarian cheese, which uses vegetable rennet.

  7. so it sounds to me like you want to be vegan, not vegetarian. if you dont drink milk, you have to certainly think about your sources of protein and especially calcium. but protein can come from soy, tofu, chick peas, a lot of stuff. talk to a nutritionist for the best suggestions.

    good luck:)
