  1. ive done boxing and kickboxing and i dont think the average person would kick someone in the head with a boxing shoe on so im going to have to disagree with the satement above mine but there are diffrences like the stance if you want a good cardio weight loss type fitness program i say you can keep doing both but if you seriously want to fight you have to pick one or the other you could look in the yellow pages for a gym and find a gym and trainer that suits your needs a good trainer will tell you everything you need to know

  2. If i were you i would look into a gym.  Most places give you gloves, wraps, and anything else you might need to take classes included in your membership fees.  If they don't provide these things they tell you exackly what you need.  But if you are just looking to messing around with friends all you really need is a pair of gloves, everlasts are pretty good.  A double sided mouth piece and wraps.  Since you are new you dont need the best stuff, just something to get you started.

  3. better to pick one or the other. if you do kick-boxing and then switch to boxing you may accidental kick the other person because it becomes an instinct at times. as for equipment it really depends on what your trainer wants from you, but here is the list of everything...

    boxing

bag gloves: it is good to have both 16 oz and the very small 10 oz bag gloves. one for building strength and endurance and the other for speed.

hand-wraps: this is to keep your wrists strait while you punch to avoid injury. One time when I was being foolish me and a friend were boxing at a party and he broke his hand b/c he punched my hip while his wrist was bent and was wearing anything to protect his hands.

mouth guard, headgear, sparing gloves (have an extra layer to go over the Velcro): will need when you start sparing

    males:groin cup

females:chest protector and optional lower private protection for women

as for sneakers I recommend getting samba by Adidas

for kick-boxing the only thing extra would be shin pads

As far as equipments goes. I would recommend not going out and buying everything all at once. get hand-wraps, a mouth-piece and one pair of bag gloves. just getting to the boxing gym is the most important thing first. once you do that then you can ask your trainer what equipment he specifically wants you to use. Most gyms will have extra equipment to let you use until you get your own.
