I am going to book the accomodation on-line. Has any of you booked this way and is it "safe"?

I.E. Will the reservation be acknowledged? Are there any problems I should know about regarding booking this way?

I would really appreciate any sensible answers.

Thanks.

  1. Yes it's perfectly safe to book your reservations online, I've been doing it for years without any problems

I lived in Sarawak for ten years and plan to go back there one day, so if there's anything more you need to know please feel free to email me

  2. Hi there!

I'm a Hotelier and a traveler too. Based on my experiences, it is the best for you to book directly to the hotel you are interested . Google up for the best accommodation and check out on reviews of other travelers who have been to these places. Normally, booking thru websites doesnt promise anything on getting good quality room when you pay at the cheaper rates. There are few incidents where the hotel does not honour those booking made thru websites, even though you have place your credit card details for confirmation.

So, as i've mentioned earlier, it is best for you to check out the hotel directly and make booking straight with them. You wont be cheated & your booking is confirm. Dont forget to ask them to email or fax to you, your reservation details..this can be keep as proof that you already made a confirm booking.

    Good luck! Have fun!

  3. We have been to Sarawak many times. In Kuching we always stay at "The Harbour View Hotel" is is very good , staff are excellent, & we prefer it to the other hotels. Very reasonable , with everything you need.  They will confirm booking by email.  When we go to Sibu, we stay at the "Tanahmas Hotel", again very central, good staff, & a reasonable price. They too will confirm bookings.  We have never had any problems in over 30 years of travelling there. You will find the people very helpful & friendly, truly a wonderful place. There are lots to do, Cultural Centre, Damai Beach, Cat Museum, all in Kuching.  In Sibu, you can visit the Pagoda, a beautiful temple, lots of good eating places, go to see "Pineapple City", all worth a visit.  Depending on how long you are staying, you can hop on a plane to Penang, another interesting place.  There are so many places to see you will definately want to return.   We love it & have made many good friends there.  Have a great holiday.

  4. I have been booking on-line for several years travelling to S E Asia so far no major hic ups. Always make sure you have a booking / ref no and I always double check the booking before I go by e-mail.  Travelled to Sarawak in 2005 wonderful time only regret that I didn't stay longer. Took the express boat up the Rejang from Sibu stayed at the The Regency Pelagus Resort lovely place great guided tours into the rain forest no cars. They have a Web site.Next time I will go further into the interior. If you go further up river you used to have to get a visa at Kapit which was free.
