  1. PLEASE email me where you live I am looking for a baby Teddy bear hamster because my last one died. (of old age) My email address is Lavenderpkp@yahoo.com and Lavenderpkp@hotmail.com

  2. First of all, if you bought her from a pet store such as Petsmart, Petco, etc.. You should NOT breed her. This will greatly shorten her lifespan,  and may kill her. And there is also a very HIGH chance that she will eat ALL of the babies. If you decide to breed, you need to start out with hamsters from a local breeder. But when you do, here are some breeding tips:

-When the mother is pregnant, she needs to have plenty of water all day, and should be fed high protein foods such as cooked egg, fruits, and veggies

-When the babies are born, you may NOT touch them until they are 2 weeks old, or have completely opened their eyes

-You shouldn't watch the babies for long periods of time. If you MUST video tape them, I suggest setting the video camera down where it can tape the babies, and you walk out of the room

-The mom needs to have some sort of igloo or house that she can have her babies in, and she needs to be in either a glass tank, or storage bin. If there is a wired cage, the babies will slip through the bars and die on their own (this has happened to me.)

-Since you can't touch the babies for 2 weeks, you can't under ANY circumstances clean out the cage, you will have to deal with the smell

    Good luck

  3. get a boy hamster and take care of them like you would when they aren't having babies.

  4. If a Hamster is pregnant dont bother her and make she she has plenty of foood and water....also if she has a nest prepared dont change it.......until the babies are 14 or so days old dont touch them as they may get eaten. Don't let the male around the babies. The female pregnant hamster will bit when she is pregnant...that is totally normal....hope i could help!

  5. Massage her feet at night, rub her shoulders, and get it ice cream when it asks.

  6. Pet Store hamsters should never be bred.

Syrian breeding should only be done by an experienced breeder, since the personality is so territorial, they can kill each other.

    Dwarfs are only marginally easier.

Pet Store hamsters have often been inbred and that will show up in the babies as missing limbs, organs, or eyes.

Keep in mind Syrians are solitary by nature, so each and every baby will need its own cage.

    IF you insist:

Do you have a small animal vet and funding in case the pregnancy or birth goes wrong? Or if one severely injures the other?

Do you know both of their medical histories? Pet store hamsters should not be bred, as you don't know their family history with defects or injuries. The hamsters you have now may even be inbred.

If you got them from a breeder, call and ask the breeder's advice.

Are you planning to keep the babies or adopt them out?

If you are planning on keeping them, you need to get enough living spaces for them- new cages, etc.

If you are going to adopt them out, you should have enough homes BEFORE the babies are conceived.

    How old is the female?

If she gives birth and decides she isn't ready, she will eat her babies. Same if she is too old. Anything over 4 months is too old to be bred for the first time.

The male needs to either not be housed with her during the pregnancy, or removed IMMEDIATELY after the babies are born, or he will impregnate her within minutes or hours or birth, that's how hamsters work.

Do you know enough not to try and change the bedding for a week or so after the babies are born, so as not to upset the mom? If they smell like humans, she will eat them.

That is a lot to think about and do research into.

    Please don't do something stupid.

Contact breeders in your area and get some research done

  7. Please don't breed http://www.geocities.com/calhamassoc/Bef...

  8. I think you should thoroughly research everything about hamsters before you even think about owning one; let alone breeding it. There are many things you have to know, and breeding is a serious thing. For example, there are certain genetics that you have to be aware about. Breeding two hamsters who have a certain "white gene" will provide you with eyeless, toothless babies. I don't think you should even ask the people on yahoo answers. Most people don't know much about hamster genetics. It's best to do your own research and get your own opinion on what is right. Below are links about hamster care, and breeding is included.

Personally, I think it's better to just adopt hammies. You might have a hard time finding homes for the babies when they grow, and they are very hard to take care of. You have to s*x them early, separate them when they're old enough, be ready to keep the hamsters that you can't give away, etc. By the way, they're called syrian hamsters. Teddy bear hamster is just a name that petshops use to make them sound more exotic.

  9. Why do you want to breed hamsters? You don't seem to know much about them so I think it would be irresponsible for you to breed them. Please don't!

  10. Hun, you only need to ask this question once. You'll get an answer, but it may not be what you want to hear.
