  1. Visitor visas are $20 online at www.immi.gov.au; they last for 3 months. They can get the visa online or through a travel agent.

They will need your address as the point of contact for where they will be staying while here and will be asked why they are visiting and how they know you.

If after a month they decide to stay a bit longer, change their flight information (which is a penalty) and make sure the date on the visa states the departure time. Visas are good for 3 months, but if you specify a certain time limit they will only be good from the time you registered it.

If the visa is to be changed for longer stays it will cost $400 to extend the visitor visa, or they will have to leave country and come back. You can leave and come back for up to a year on 3 month intervals. Changing to other visas will put you on a bridging visa to stay until it is decided upon the application visa made.

Family sponsored will have to show they can financially handle the burden of another person, spousal or relationship visa will have to prove knowing each other personally for one year before application can be made...

  2. i was under the impression that if someone is staying over here for like under 90days they didnt need any forms filled out. well especially under one month.

as long as there not working (and being just one month, its not like they r going to really get a job) its just a holiday.

thats just wat i thort. but i guess cos i live here ive never had to worry about it.

but just check out the government site, or immigration

  3. If they are from the US or UK then they don't need a visa, if not then they will need a tourist visa..

    See http://ww.immi.gov.au

EDIT - Australia has a visa waiver program with the UK and US meaning citizens travelling to Australia or from Australia for a tourist based visit for less then 90 days don't require a visa.

  4. www.immi.gov.au

  5. Usually a 1 month stay falls under just a regular tourist visa, for which you can apply online (but only from some countries).

There is also a "family sponsorship" type visa, where you (the Australian resident) sponsor a family member from overseas to visit Australia for up to 6 months.

  6. Mel is totally wrong, and it just goes to show that you should not rely on sites like this for important info of this nature.

Every non-Australian needs a visa to enter Australia.

Check the government site. Tourist visas in many cases can be applied for and issued on line.
