  1. assume you are planning wood material. if so your cost will far exceed the cost of a ready made hull. if you enjoy the work, look at a ready made bare hull and you can add the rest to suit your needs. have built two 25 foot  boats this method and had great sucess and fun.

  2. if you dont know what your about to do pal then dont or else you'll end up living with the fish

  3. yes yes yes yes do it...!!!!

    u legend..

i want to make a boat..

  4. t will cost you much less f you simply buy a boat.  The expense of building a boat is not only monetary, it's also extrremely time consuming defeating the purpose of the boat to begin with.  Evaluate your fnances and consider yearly costs associated with owning a boat

  5. Some of the people who have answered your question do not have a clue.  I build wooden boats for a living.  I build fishing boats, hunting boats, sailboats, kayaks, and most especially canoes.  Wooden fishing boats are quiet, durable and beautiful.  You can customize a boat to meet your needs.  There is a magazine called "Wooden Boat"  They publish many books on boatbuilding, hundreds of plans for everything from 8 foot prams to 35 foot sailing boats.  They also have advertisers who sell every part you will need.  My email address :   is boat@wk.net and if you email me with more information about the size boat you want to build, I probably have a set of plans to meet your needs and will be glad to mail them to you for the cost of postage only.  How is that?  Now, about cost, depending on what you already have you can build a fourteen foot boat for as little as four hundred dollars up to perhaps  $650.00 for one made out of the best of materials.  Where can you find a new boat for that?  A fourteen foot boat will probably fit your needs, but a sixteen footer will be very roomy and safe.  Send me an idea of the size of the four of you and weather you want to sail it at some later date, or at least the size of the waters you plan to use it in and the size of the motor you will be using.  Also tell me if a live well is important to you, is a rod locker important, etc.  Jamestown fasteners sells everything you need except wood.Don't be discouraged by the answers others gave you, Qualified, knowledgeable, or not, people are sometimes quick to give an opinion.  That was the case here.  If you just want a boat of work boat quality (no varnish, all paint, strictly utilitarian, the price is even cheaper.  For instance, my personal canoe is stripbuilt, covered with fiberglass  set in epoxy inside and out.  The epoxy is clear and makes the cloth disappear, so up close or far away all you see is the wood.  The seats are made of cherry frames with handwoven can seats.  Unlike aluminum, which feels cold to the skin, wood is warm.  The cane breathes and has built in stretching.  The bottom of the boat has colloidal silica as a coat and rather than stick to rocks, it glides over them.  I have over 11000 miles on it traveling every canoeable river in the ozarks, the appalachian mountains, the smokies and several other rivers.  Most of that has been class 2-3 with an occasional 4 and 5.  It has never, dumped me yet in 18 years, though I know my time is coming, lol.  I have a total cost of approximately 500 dollars using the best materials.  New I sell these boats for 23-25 hundred dollars, depending on specifications and options.  They are quieter, better manered and set up with my customer's body shape and intended uses factored in.  I have a 18 month waiting period for my boats as of Dec. 2001.  My hunting boats have rails designed to hold brush and movable seats. and a dog platform.  My whitehall pulling boats are lapstrake , in every instance, the cost of materials is 1/3 or less of the total cost of the boat.  (labor makes up the rest.  You can do the same with your fishing boats.  If you just wanted a plain - jane fishing boat/ rowboat, you can make one with cheap but serviceable materials  for a couple hundred dollars, even less if you are a scrounger.  May the fourth you and your daughter can build a boat in one weekend if you live near Morehead city north carolina.  The Maritime Museum is sponsoring a family boatbuilding event. and every family team will build their own boat and have it floating , less paint by the end of the second day.  Wooden boat is sponsoring this same event in other areas of the country.  For full details you can get the current wooden boat at bookstores now (It just came out 4 or 5 days ago.  Anyway, if you send me a more detailed description of your needs, I will see that you get details for the full construction of a couple boats so that you can have a choice of a couple designs. www.boat@wk.net is my email, so there it is, and SHAME on people who don't have a clue for expressing such negative answers!!!!!
