I want to build a sailboat. What do I need?

Noah built one. I'd like to do the same. A variation, I like to call the sailboat. I'm not looking for something out of a Polo advertisement, just a working sailboat that i can sit on and use. Let's get creative! Smart, and creative. Thanks!

some wood, some stain, some water sealer, grandma's old sheets, some rope or wire, and some flares.  Emergency floatation devices would be helpfull.

Basically if you have to ask, you need help.

Not meaning to sound facetious but the basic carpentry skills needed to build a small boat are only in the medium range.

If you have done much woodworking you should already know that, I am guessing you are pretty inexperienced?

It can be done, but if you dont have basic knowledge of joinery, measuring and fitting, gluing, finishing you will be at a disadvantage.

You may want to learn about Fiberglass if you want to cover the outside. Inside may be optional depending on how much you want to spend. Epoxy Resin is about $80-100 a gallon. Polyester Resin around $40-55 a gallon.

You need the 3 W's - wood, water, wind.  

Kind of vague question actually, how long, how much sailing experience, how big of body of water, how much $ you can spend.  Look up "free boat plans" on Google and follow some of the links, you can find literally hundreds of plans and tips in a very short time that are free.
