  2. There are many ways to approach this. You can:

A.) Draw out the plans yourself or incorporate another person's plans into your final project.

B.) Use someone else's plan entirely.

C.) Buy it from a retail store and build it right out of the box.

If this is going to be a real father gift I'd suggest sticking it with the A or B. They are both similar and require some form of originality. I think you have expectations in what you would vision as a 'perfect' playhouse, and therefore you should write down what you want out of it (or more importantly, what you know your daughter will want out of it).

With this in mind, consider available plans, one such site that has free playhouse plans is: http://www.buildeazy.com/ . They have castle plans, house plans, you name it - just click 'Free Plans' and go to 'P' for Playhouse.

You can search 'playhouse plans' on any search engine and get results too.

Once you got some basic ideas, it should be simple enough to sketch out your own project and begin purchasing the necessary pieces.

    * In most cases your building article of choice will be wood, so in excess to the wood you will want to purchase a finish or veneer for the wood surface to protect it from the weather, and give it a legitimate roofing material as well. All the building materials you will need for this will be at your local hardware store.

    - door hinges

    - paint

    - roof tile

    - etc.

*wanna go all out? think of it as building your child a little 'home', but call an electrician if your thinking of lights! Good luck with it and be creative!

  3. Here's a link to some plans and actual kits.  When you add up the cost of the wood, etc.... Good luck!
