  1. The difference is Dixons!

There is no difference between the packages on offer - they are all a hobbled version of Microsoft Office, and they are all overpriced.

Check out the offer at http://www.software4students.co.uk/ which includes Office Professional Plus for only £45.95

or Standard for £35.45 - if you don't want Publisher or Access

or Enterprise for £56.95 if you must have OneNote.

OR IF YOU CAN WAIT about a week, I think...

    http://www.theultimatesteal.co.uk

will look more like the US version:

    http://www.theultimatesteal.com

currently offering the Ultimate edition for $60...

last year the offer started in September and ran to April

ONLY for persons with .ac.uk e-mail addresses

(but the software4students offer is actually more flexible...)

Yes, OpenOffice is free, and yes it's compatible - but I think that the Microsoft prices here offer very reasonable value for money...

  2. Click the link below for a 'What's Included' table and browse the site for all the info you need.

The links you have posted are for the same version 'Home and Student'. The higher price ones are probably the retail versions which can transfer their licences to a new PC, but only one at a time.

The cheaper version is likely to be the OEM version which can only be activated on one PC.

  3. They are all more expensive then OpenOffice, which has all the functionality that most people need

  4. My personal view is that if you must have MS Office buy a legal earlier version so that you are not paying thro the nose. These items you list are all rip off and if you try the free Open Office it will do almost all of the same.

  5. Alright, here you go:

Microsoft Word: I would primarily use this application to write papers. Also, it's great for me because I love to make lists. Features include: Spell check, the ability to add boarders, change colors, add pictures, and re-arrange text format.

Microsoft Powerpoint:This is great for a presentation at work. You can build slides and then use the quick view (F5) to watch your slide show. My favorite parts are; the Picture finder, (which can also find sounds,) and Word Art, to make a snazzy banner or title.

Microsoft Excel: This is basically a giant spread sheet. It has tools to add numbers for you, an easy graph making system, plus you can change the colors to suite your personality.

Microsoft OneNote: This is an update for Tablet PCs.

  6. the dearer ones have word/excel etc

  7. As the poster below said they are all dearer than open office , which is free and is compatible with microsoft office but if you really want office look on ebay first I did and got office 2007 Enterprise which has far more than the offices you stated and only paid £30.00 for it brand new
