I want to buy a D-SLR camera. But I'm a very amateur photographer. Any suggestions?

Something reasonably priced and not too complicated. Nothing over $750. Also, since I've never owned one, do those cameras come with memory cards just like normal point and shoot digital cameras. I would assume so...?

  1. If you're a very amateur photographer, like I am, you'll be happy with the Canon Powershot G9 as its photography quality is near dSLR quality, it has 12.1 Megapixels, it's about $200 cheaper than the basic dSLR on the market, it has a hotshoe (for a external flash), you can add filters on it if you by the converter ($29 at most), has RAW image capturing, it has full manual controls, ISO 80-3200, and most of all, it is a lot smaller than any dSLR will be. If you really want a dSLR, wait for the XS; do not get the XSi as it will be the camera with more controls that you will not need as an amateur.

If you do not know or understand a term that I have listed above, a dSLR will besuperfluous for your needs. You'll be just as happy with the Canon G9.

    Hope this helps you!

  2. You can get the Canon Rebel XTi for about $650-700 right now. When I bought mine from Best Buy a couple years ago it did not come with a memory card... I had to buy that seperately.

You may also be interested in getting the Canon Rebel XT, Nikon D40, or Nikon D60.

The key thing is to really get to know your camera... don't be afraid to use the manual features (I know a lot of people who aren't willing to touch them... what a waste of money), that's the best way to learn what they do!

  3. You'll need to get some memory cards if you don't have any for the DSLR you choose.

  4. Get an entry level DSLR.

Canon rebel xt or xti w/kit lense.

No - the cameras do not come with memory cards, though there are stores that will include it if you buy a new dslr from them.

  5. The cannon 450d is reasonably new on the market and a nice camera,Cannon have changed the memory card on this one,the older versions used a compact flash card but Cannon have changed to SD cards with this model, and they are bought separately
