  1. buy any branded dvd player sony/philips etc that supports divx. and if money is not ur problem, then u go for blue ray disc players which supports great video quality for your HD screens

  2. try onida, Akai, Hyundai etc.

also look for some deals an discounts online

  3. Since dvds are being phased out, I'd go with an inexpensive but name brand. Any of them should suffice.

  4. Everyone is best if u bought it for costly......

  5. well I have an onida and it plays perfect and with scratchded c.d's too and if u wanna record progs from the tele then u can go for a dvd recorder of sansui.

  6. If money is no object buy a player that will support BluRay, HD-DVD, DVD with Divx certification. A double sided dual layer BluRay disk can fit in upwards of 70 movies @ 700MB each. (25GB+25GB). [This will help in compressing your DVD's and fitting it onto one disk to reduce clutter and increase portability.]

Note: As HD-DVD players are being phased out that support may no longer be valid.

    OR

You can buy an upconverting Divx(MP4) DVD player which will play most formats except for BluRay and HD-DVD. The upconverting will remove the black bars that are visible in MP4 movies.

Make sure your TV is compatible (HDMI/DVI/D-SUB) for upconversion to work as the DVD player will have an HDMI out. If not, a Monitor will also do as HDMI to D-SUB and HDMI to DVI  cables/adapters are available in the market.

However with the HDMI to D-SUB/DVI method the sound will be have to routed using Audio out to a Home theater. For upconversion outside of a DVD player one can also buy a Upconverting receiver or box.

I leave the research upto you as personally I have owned a Philips DVP-642 and currently using a DVDR3400 and I was satisfied.

If a screen fit matters, I have also used the LGDN788 (HDMI to DVI) and it was great.

Also remember, these Divx players do have MP3/JPEG support and also support certain subtitle formats too.

Cheapest alternative for a BluRay player which plays MP4 encapsulated movies however, will be a PS3 console [don't forget the games, internet surfing and the ability to double up as a computer]

Do Check out my Sources, have a nice one mate! - Regards from US of A.

  7. Samsung DVD HD870

(if you are on a tight budget and need a good player)

    Denon DVD 1940

(slightly better deal, your DVD's will benefit if you have big screen and all the other needed components)

    Marantz DV7001

    (if money is no object)

  8. Oppo DV-981HD Universal DVD Player with HDMI, 1080p Up-Converting, DivX & SACD
