Are any new Nikon 35 mm manual advance? I thought I might save $$ with a quality older one with no problems with too much automation breaking down.

  1. The Nikon FM10 is the last Nikon, still in production, with a manual shutter c**k/film advance lever. At a whopping MSRP of $330+ it may be a better idea to spend less money on a vintage restored high-end Nikon SLR. The FM10 is an entry SLR and it has a reputation for being a bit out-dated and on the flimsy side so it would and wouldn't compare to the solid classics.

There's plenty of room for break downs -- older manual SLRs are completely manual after all but they're very solid at the same time. Just don't believe that it isn't possible. All Nikon lenses have a F-mount. The majority of Nikon and 3rd party Nikon lenses will work fine with a manual Nikon camera with the exceptions mentioned above by Jt C.

  2. If you can find an FA, F2 F3 or F4 in good shape they are all solid reliable cameras that were well built. The older bodies will use most any Nikkor lenses AI or later The old cameras will NOT work with the G lenses they need a lens with an aperature ring.  They will not autofocus.Of course having to focus manually is really not a big deal. Many of us did it for years
