I want to buy a Nikon D40?

D40 is an excellent camera. It sells under USD$600. Don't know about Oz, or the quality of the online service there. For cameras, I'd rather pay a little more to see the actual product I am getting before I pay for it. Cuz delivery has all kinds of problem. If it is a faulty unit, they may or may not replace it, and you have to wait for it to ship back and forth, etc.

Go feel the stuff try it out, make sure it is not faulty. If anything goes wrong, you deal direct with Nikon, not some sales person or customer service from a third party.

yea the d40 is a great buy,and the price has dropped recently you can find them in bundle at most best buys for under 600

Given that this site is an au website I will assume you are in Australia and answer this from an Australian perspective.

My advice about this website is DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. I always like to research a company advertising products on the net before I purchase them. I look on their site for a street address, ABN/ACN number, phone number, refund policy etc before I buy. This site has no street address and no phone number listed in their contact details. In fact the only contact detail is a UK email address!

I search for an ABN (Australian Business Number) for Best Buy Brands (1st link below) and no company by that name is listed.

Another point that bothers me is that they claim to be located near a UPS hub. Why would an Australian Business with a UK email address be using an American parcel service?

In the USA there is a website called 'Reseller Ratings' they maintain a database of customer feedback on stores. This gives a good idea whether the company trades honestly or whether  people feel they have been scammed. The results of my search on this particular business were not encouraging (2nd link below).

Teds camera store have this camera listed at $645 (3rd link below) and in my experience when a retailer claims to be drastically cheaper, they are not worth the grief.

As for the D40 it is an excellent camera to start out with. There is a certain inability to auto focus on certain (mostly older) lenses but this is not a major problem. Such lenses can be used and the auto focus indicator even works, just you have to turn the lens by hand.

My advice is absolutely go ahead and get the D40, but buy it from somewhere reputable.
